I bought this car in Northern California in July 1999, and used it as a "daily driver" for my commute between San Francisco and Mountain View for 3 years. I put 60,000 miles on the odometer, but it only has 5 digits so I don't know what the "real" mileage is. This is a genuine California car, and the body is very sound; there are a few small rust spots, but nothing structural.
It was registered until recently in New York, and has a current inspection certificate. Cars of this age are exempt from smog regulations.
The interior is in very good shape, as the previous owner had just had a new "deluxe" interior fitted, although the headliner needs to be replaced. The car features the original "rim blow" steering wheel.
I've invested over $8,000 in this car since I bought it, replacing many of the key components including:
I drove it across the country when I moved to New York last October with no problems, and other than driving it to a shop to get a NYS inspection certificate, it has sat in a covered parking garage ever since.
The Grandé derivative of the Mustang was introduced by Ford in 1969 as a luxury variant:
"This was Ford's answer to the buyer who wanted T-Bird luxury in a smaller, sportier package. Available as a coupe only, it provided as standard equipment the Deluxe Decor Interior, plus simulated woodgrain instrument-panel trim, deluxe three-spoke steering wheel, special door panels, padded interior quarter panels and special cloth-inserted bucket seats.
"Outside, wire wheel covers, dual mirrors, C-pillar logo, duo-toned paint stripe under the fender line, and a chrome trim molding along the fender well set the Grande apart from other Mustang Coupes."
Taylor, Don & Wilson, Tom, Mustang Restoration Handbook, HPBooks 1987
According to Taylor & Wilson, only 22,182 Grandé models were produced in 1969 and 13,581 in 1970, making this an extrememly rare Mustang!
