The
World Wide Web is a wonderful resource. It puts a world of possibilities literally
at your fingertips. Unfortunately, equal opportunities for misuse exist. That's
why there are a set of socially acceptable rules guiding the use of materials
placed on the web. If we all play fair, everyone benefits. If too many people
cheat, eventually sites like this have to come down. Then we all lose.
Here is a basic list.
- TAKE
ONLY THOSE GRAPHICS OFFERED. The things available for download are clearly
indicated. These are images that I made myself, or the occasional bit of
public domain art. The site itself is decorated with graphics intended only
for my own use, and these are not available.
- PUT
THE GRAPHICS ON YOUR OWN SERVER. These free web services get a bit testy
when someone sucks up a ton of excess bandwidth. They might even pull my
plug -- then if you've linked to the files through this site your page will
suddenly fill with those cute little empty boxes. It isn't that hard to
save the images to your own hard drive and upload them to your server.
- PLEASE
PUT A LINK BACK TO THIS SITE ON YOUR PAGE. We arty types like getting the
credit we deserve. It might also rustle us up some new customers. There
doesn't have to be a link on every page, but it should be easy for your
visitors to find it. There are linkback graphics to match their respective
sets.
- THESE
GRAPHICS ARE FREE FOR PERSONAL/NON-PROFIT USE ONLY. If you represent a business
and want a graphic set, e-mail me to discuss a fair fee.
- DON'T
REDISTRIBUTE THESE, OR ALTER THEM IN ANY WAY. Don't put them in any collections
you might want to sell or give away. Obviously, if you want to change the
word on a button to better match the content of your site, that's cool.
That's
it for the lectures. Now, go have a little fun. If you are new to this web
business, you'll find primitive downloading instructions in each section.
If you use anything on your site, please come back and sign the guest book
so we can all go have a look!
