The Last Update
It is with a heavy heart that I am announcing that Blue & Gold Forever is no longer going to be maintained after February 21, 2004. I originally made this website in 1998, and a lot of things have changed since then. Over the years I have met a lot of great Sabre fans, and I have chronicled one team, one city and one building. But now, six years later, everything and nothing has changed. The Sabres are still wearing the Goat Lord uniforms, and the Aud is still boarded up and waiting for someone to do something with it. Over time the emails have dried up and I imagine that the traffic on this website has slowly dropped off as well. This project was never intended to compete with the new, corporate internet sites out there, and I have realised that I really can't. Plus, re-reading some of the essays on this website has made me realise that my former idealism has dissipated, and that the high-scoring, raucous NHL of my youth that I had been fighting to save is really gone forever. Hockey has changed irrevocably over the past ten years, and apart from the growth of the International game I really can't say that any of the changes have really been for the better. Twenty years ago you could get good seats at an NHL game for the cost of a movie; now that won't even let you sniff the air outside. And now, with an NHL strike looming as the owners desperately attempt to restore some sanity to the costs of the game, I have realised that I really don't care anymore. The NHL is beyond repair. I will still watch playoff hockey, but other than that the NHL no longer holds any interest for me. I am still a huge hockey fan; I will watch the World Juniors, and the Olympics, and minor hockey, and above all, Junior Hockey. Living in an OHL city allows me to go to see top-calibre hockey from good seats weekly for $12, something no longer possible in the NHL.
This website will stay online for long into the forseeable future. I have no plans to close this website, as I believe that the things I wrote and the pictures I took and the service I provide here is still needed on the internet. I still will answer emails as well. If you want to view my current project, feel free to check out The OHL Arena & Travel Guide, which is usually updated at least once a week.
So long, Sabres fans. See you at the rink.
Cheers,
Kevin Jordan
The "Clean-Up the Aud" crew were allowed inside the Aud in July. Here's their photos.
Note to Sabres webring folks, I refuse to have the new "goat lord" symbol anywhere on my page, explaining the way it is different from other webring sites.
