Welcome to the online home of
Richard Jones, writer of science fiction, fantasy, genre-blending
stories and all-around strangeness. I try to write straight stories,
but, well, things get weird. Wackiness ensues.
I'm an award-winning former newspaper
reporter. I served my time at the FLORIDA TODAY newspaper in Melbourne,
FL, and the Ocala Star-Banner in, where else, Ocala, FL. Following
that, I spent four years as the chief public relations flack for
the University of Florida's College of Engineering, before retiring
to raise my three sons while my wife works.
I began writing fiction because
I wanted to get paid for writing things I made up and not get
fired for it. Newspapers are funny that way.
Oh, yeah. I'm bald. And I had
a heart attack in November, 2004. Read
all about it.
But the good news is that my
story, "The Mismatched Monster," won fifth place in
the annual Preditors and Editors Readers' Poll 2004 for Best Horror
Short. You can find links to the story on my published works page
just below.
Although I've not yet placed
a story in a professional publication, I have sold numerous short
stories to semi-pro markets, both pixel and print. As to the pros,
I'm working on it. I'm working on it.

up my eddress.
