| Subject: | Indy's Ranger Artifacts for the week of 10-14-01... |

Greetings, Rangerphiles! It was home improvement week in Indy's house, so I didn't have time to spare for an artifact this week. There's lots in the works, so as soon as I can put a couple of afternoons together I'll have something ready. Btw, it was one of the more enjoyable weekends in my part of the country as my Auburn Tigers humbled the so-called invincible top-ranked Florida Gators on Saturday in front of a national audience. Now, for the week that was... 8-bit Star began the week with his "Pun Title Reference Guide". The Ranger episodes are notorious for their titles being puns taken from popular culture or playing on words. There was a good bit of chattering on just what the proper references were, but the idea is a good one--particularly for those who don't have any references in 80's culture. Our game-playing guru returned on Tuesday, asking us who we thought our favorite fanfic authors are. This is certainly something that changes over time, so it was interesting to see the range of responses here. Proper homage was given to the pioneers of Ranger fanfiction--Demcio, Brunner, and Weatherwax. Ah, the rough pioneer days before a good spellchecker or a Cafe to spread the news... The J.A.M. wondered if Gadget would have any physical marks like scars that would distinguish her from Lahwhinie. I think it's pretty obvious that they are twins, so it's likely that they each have a matching birthmark somewhere. As far as scars, I'd imagine that they'd each have some distinguishing ones. Gadget may have a couple of acid scars from working with chemicals, and since she zapped herself once in the series she could well have a burn mark or two. Hmm...maybe those coveralls have asbestos woven into them. Morgan K. also chimed in on Tuesday, wondering about Nimnul, episode continuity, the RangerWing, and the relationship between Nimnul and Snoops from "The Rescuers". This led off in a lot of directions so I'll try to be brief here. I think that "A Fly in the Ointment" came around the middle of the episodes, that the RangerWing did come after the RangerPlane, and I do think that Nimnul and Snoops are related. In fact, we had already brought that idea out in the next part of the saga Chris and I were writing--why do we Rangerphiles keep having the same ideas!? Because we're all clever and creative, that's why. Nathan chimed in on Tuesday as well, announcing his one-year anniversary with the Rangerphiles. Happy anniversary, Nathan, and thanks for sharing your unique perspective on life with us! Nathan provided us with a Rangerized version of Counter Strike to celebrate, so if you're into the CS phenomenon you've got a Rangerish touch to it now. To close out Tuesday--what a day for postings!--8-Bit Star chimed in again, asking we writers for fanfic crossovers that we think only we would do. There were lots of ideas put forth, but the best one I would like to see was Quantum Leap and the Rangers. I've recently gotten into that show, so I'd like to see what someone woudld do with that. As for me, I think I've already had my moment with the Thundercats crossover. Justice, truth, honor, loyalty... As the Cafe rolled on into Wednesday, we picked up another traveler on the Rangerphile train of glory. pOd joined up, and received the gracious welcome that typifies the Rangerphile community. Once again, welcome pOd, and don't be a stranger! Meghan Brunner posted on Wednesday as well, letting us know her site was down and a future site will be active at www.angelfire.com/mb2/faebard. Ironic, since I recently had to move my own to Angelfire. I'd forgotten that Meghan was working on publishing a book, so hope all goes well! The J.A.M. returned on Thursday, giving us an update on Burt Brown--the Ranger writer from Disney who contacted our Amazingly Mexican Jaguar last week. Several nice tidbits in that posting, including the surprisingly loose creation of Rat Capone and his comrades. Chris and I are exploring his character in part nine of the saga--that one will be interesting, to say the least. TOZ brought us a new picture on Thursday as well, and I must say it really looked good for a first effort. The arms and hands are a little off, but otherwise it's a fine rendition. I'm sure you'll only get better, TOZ! 8-Bit came back in on Friday and put forth the idea of doing a threaded adventure of our original fanfic characters on the Story Board. That's certainly novel, so I'll be interested to see how that goes. I've only got about 20 or so to choose from, so I'll have to think about it--though I think that "Uncle" Bedivere Fairmont's probably my favorite. Ares (Dale Arrendale) brought us a new picture of Dale (very nice!)on Saturday. He's also updated his fiction section at rrstuff.net so go give him a look-see. And that brings us to Ares' RR weekly poll...

20 Total votes Looks like there's several of us who write often, and just as many who don't. That's understandable, given the constraints of time and priorities and all. I'm still pleased to say that our body of fanfiction will stand up to any other group's on the net. Earlier today, Mr. Pi alerted us that he has joined the exodus from Geocities and is now at http://rain.prohosting.com/misterpi/ so give him a visit! The site looks very nice, Mr. Pi, and there's nothing like a change of location to provide a chance for improvement. Man-Child has started up a new threaded story on the Story Board, and it shows his wonderfully unique creativity once again--though I had to look up and discover who Yolei Inoue was. Shoulda known she wears glasses ;-) CD brought us an all-time favorite question--what our favorite episodes are. My favorite is still Gadget Goes Hawaiian, and moreso now because of its relation to Deborah and because I've become a Lahwhinie fan through developing her character in the saga. Double-O-Dale would be second, because I thought it was Dale's best showing and it's just priceless when he gets smooched by Gadget. Third would be Kiwi's Big Adventure because it's so funny watching the silent back-and-forth between Chip and Dale and poor Gadget in the middle of it. Fourth is Cola Cult, because an orange Gadget with a souped-up gyromobile has to be cool. And fifth would be Adventures in Squirrelsitting because I like Tammy and how she just doted on Chip. And finally, Rem announced an update to the NGS. I love the style the Russian artists use on Gadget--it's fascinating to look at. Thanks for the update, and keep 'em coming Russian Rangerphiles! Well, that's it for this week's Artifacts (whew, a lot to summarize this week!). Until next time, make sure to get your fedora in a size just a little smaller than your head size, because otherwise you'll have to staple that sucker in to keep it on--really, he did that! |
