Fellow Rangerphiles, It's certainly a day for comebacks, with our country joining with our British allies to try to eliminate the threat of terrorism. I pray for every Allied soldier, that they are protected in this dangerous endeavor. It's only the start, I'm sure. Now, on to more pleasant news. I've decided to put my site up at Angelfire. I have the fanfic section back up, but since they don't allow mp3's there I'll have to find another place for them (sorry about that, Race). So at this point, this site will be fanfics and other material related to the Cafe. I plan to do some redesigning and some major add-ons, now that I have lots of room to play with. This week's artifact is related to that, as I'll explain at the bottom of the article. Now, for the week that was... Dragondreamerx (hi, new Rangerphile!) brought up the topic of crossover stories involving Gadget and the Brain. There was plenty of discussion on how Gadget and Brain would get along, as well as Gadget and Pinky interestingly enough. Chris Silva and I have done a couple of small fanfics about them, and when I can get them edited and polished I'll put them up at my new fanfic site--nothing like a free plug ;-) 8-Bit Star's got a fanfic saga going at the Story Board called "Final Origin: Frog Saga". Give it a try, and support Rangerphile fanfic authors! Dragondreamerx returned with discussion on Danger Mouse as a possible crossover victim...er, addition for the Rangers. This brought out a lot of discussion on Danger Mouse in general, whom I must say I'm not familiar with. Still, I did notice that Loneheart noted that Danger Mouse was on DVD. If a British cartoon can be on DVD, certainly our Rangers deserve the digital treatment! No offense intended to all Danger Mouse fans :-) Dragondreamerx is certainly persistent in bringing ideas to the forefront--good, we need them! This time it was the suggestion of using the Rangers in a Redwall adventure. It seems that Redwall has certainly become an internet phenomenon, so maybe we will see a direct crossover before it's over. On Tuesday, the J.A.M. reported a long and detailed Ranger dream he had. I would think you'd need a couple of Tylenol after that! Hmm, I wonder why you'd see the Rangers as human-sized inside the store and then rodent-sized outside? Sounds like the Law of Ironic Convenience working very selectively. Then again, dreams usually are ironically convenient. So what did you eat, anyway? Loneheart went next, wondering about saving the Ranger episodes for future viewing. I do think that if Disney won't bring the Rangers out on DVD, then whichever of us can--I eventually plan to buy a DVD recorder--should record the episodes digitally for preservation. The day will come when Disney will no longer show the Rangers, and at that point, it might be worth our while to ask if we could bring such a digital archive to the web. We'll see. Matt Pearman's site now has an interactive map for us Rangerphiles to see where we all are! If you don't mind pinpointing your general location or just want to see where some of the others of us are, head on over there and check it out! On Wednesday, the J.A.M. again reported to us--no dream this time--but with very nifty news. He'd received e-mail from one of the show's original writers! Burt Brown has touched the world of the Rangerphiles, and who knows? Maybe he'll end up coming here and seeing what we writers have done in the past six years or so. I'm sure he'll be quite amazed if he does, for I know of no better fanfic writers than the Rangerphiles. Thanks for informing us, J.A.M.! Jeff Parkes and Brian Walmer announced separate updates for us. Jeff updated his World Association of Montyphiles site, so be sure to give it a look! And Brian Walmer gave us more of his story, "The Big Goodbye". Looking good so far, Brian, and keep up the good work! The J.A.M. brought us an RR-related question on Thursday--did the Rangers eat meat or meat bi-products in the episodes? As Dave Junker noted, I remember them eating pizza. Monty also ate pizza in "A Creep in the Deep" and as I remember one of them was about to eat pizza in "Battle of Bulge" before Monty caught them trying to snack behind his back. I don't think that the Rangers are omnivorous as a rule, though. They tend to keep to fruits, vegetables and cheeeeeze for the most part--and sugar-laden snacks, at least when it comes to Dale. Matt Pearman posted again on Thursday (wow, lots of repeat posts this week!) and told us he's got a CDRR game in a demo version for download. I haven't had time to ask for it yet, but I will soon enough. Man, we've got artists, writers, game developers, animators. If Disney ever drops their copyright, we'll be ready! Rikirk had a birthday on Thurday. Happy Birthday! Kevin Sharbaugh mentioned also on Thursday that his mother was very Gadgetish in her ways of behaving and doing things. My mom has a few of those qualities. She's very intelligent, and she tells me that when she was a kid she took care of all the maintenance on the television--back when they had vacuum tubes in them! My uncle's an electrical engineer who worked with NASA, and he's quirky and can talk in technobabble like Gadget, but he's more like Sparky in his way. Maybe we should have a thread on which Ranger our relations are most like. And now, for Ares' weekly poll...
RRWeekly Poll 10.01
In every sentence 0 (0%) 15 Total votes
Comments: I forgot to vote in this poll, but I do use Gadgetisms every now and again. My favorite is the use the word "should" to people who don't understand the reference and grin inside, thinking, "you guys should really be ducking about now". Now, for the artifact in the Artifacts. As I said at the start, I've got my fanfics page back up with the associated fanfics. For this week, I've taken all my Untold Ranger Tales stories and I've compiled each one into one nice-looking HTML file. So if you'd like an easy archive of each part, or haven't read them yet and would prefer viewing it all-at-once, follow the link below. I'll be compiling all the other stories as well once I make time. Oh, and one note--part six is close to release. This story takes a break from the current plotline, while fitting in with it. This one is really unique, so keep a lookout! That's it for this week. Until next time, don't allow anyone to drive you around who has to tie wooden blocks to his feet to reach the pedals! |
