Happy Sunday, Rangerphiles! Well, I'm getting the Artifacts out a little earlier this week because I decided to finally get organized (No, not entirely. Just with my web page) and get the clutter off the Captions page. When you click over there this week, you'll find that I've archived the November and December captions on their own pages, and now you only have to contend with the current month's offerings. Nothing like a little cleanliness--but only once in a while ;-) Now to the announcment of this week's caption winner, and yes there's only one this week. There were a lot of ways to go with this one, but in the end I went with Rennod's submission. Excellent job, Rennod, and I'm sure you'll contend this week as well. We're back to the Ranger villains this time, with Norton and his nephew Normie. What's Norton berating him about, and what did Normie say in response? I'm sure you'll have a good time letting me know. And now, for the week that was... Painless Doc Johnson started off our Monday with a problem a lot of the Rangerphiles have had--ribbing over being a Rangerphile and particularly a Gadgetphile. If you're being ribbed over something you should be ashamed of, that's one thing. But if you're being ribbed over liking a cartoon, so what? Don't be embarrassed, but use it as your opportunity to show them what's good about the Rangers. Who knows--you might convert a few over to your side :-) Dumpsterside asked on Tuesday what ages Tammy and Bink were. I'd say Tammy was around fifteen in the show, and Bink was around 5. That's a little older for Bink than some others, but remember she did talk in the episode and quite intelligently (although just the one time). That thread then led into a discussion on the tendency for Disney to feature single-parent families. I'm not quite sure why they do this--maybe they think they're trying to identify with the kids out there, many of whom are in single-parent families. Maybe they're trying to create sympathy for the child. There is one two-parent household in the Disney afternoon, being Pete's family in Goof Troop. Notably, that's not a happy family so I think there's another subtle message there. Maybe none of the Disney crew had a happy home life? Also on Tuesday, Jack (hello, Jack!) wondered about the missing-in-action TAOGH scripts. It's a shame when any Ranger fanfiction is lost, and hopefully it'll become available again soon. On Wednesday, Ray Jones showed us his new Gadget picture, who's passing a nice spring day petting a butterfly. Great positioning there, Ray, and your drawing skills get better every time! Also on Wednesday, Matt "Gorilla" Pearman noted that The J.A.M. was our first to reach the 1000-post mark on the new boards. Way to go, J.A.M.! Uh, there's no prizes or anything, but I'm sure Gadget wouldn't mind making you a cake or something. I wouldn't light the candles, though ;-) Ares asked for new poll questions on Wednesday. If there's a Ranger question you've always wanted to know the community's mind on, now's the time! That brought up a question that was quite interesting--what would be the good and bad points of having the Rangers in your house? I already gave mine, but I think one more bad point would be listening to Zipper gripe about the lack of a plush for him, which would probably get Foxy, Tammy, Bink and the rest of the one-timers going. I wonder if they'd have any pull with the Disney legal department... On Friday, Gorilla (Matt Pearman) left us for parts unknown. Keep safe, Matt, and remember there's a home on the net for you if you need a place to hang your hat! Also on Friday, Zipper mentioned that he has a game engine and would like story ideas for developing a new Ranger game. Can anyone help him out there? The few in-house games that have been developed by Rangerphiles have gone over well here, so if you want to be a part of the next one give Zipper a buzz! Yes, that was a pun. With the coming of Saturday, Chip ID brought back the famous (infamous?) "things ---- would never say" thread and this time expanded it to not only all the Rangers but even some of the Rangerphiles! Now, since this was done for fun and is understood as such, I think in this case using people's names was okay. But, keep in mind that feelings can be hurt doing this kind of thing, so think about it very hard before doing something like this. That said, I liked the contributions here, even the one poking a little fun at me. Besides, I'm sure Dr. Jones wouldn't mind a little ribbing. Dr. Jones: Steal, huh? I'll show you stealing! Um, then again...;-) Also on Saturday, Painless Doc Johnson told us that his contributions for the near future would be few and far between because his free year of internet service was up. Well, maybe Gadget should come up with a free server of her own. Then we could all log on over her service. Of course, when it comes to upgrades and we hear the word "should"... Finally, DumpsterSide updated us on the Ranger movie script he's working on, also informing us that he's got a short story he's going to let us see. Bring it on, DumpsterSide, and glad you're a contributing member here! Speaking of contributing, Chris Silva and I have been at it again. We've got another short Ranger fic that should debut during this next week. Now, I won't tell you what it's about because that would spoil it, but we plan to have it all come together for you as soon as possible. Well, that's it for this week. Until next time, remember to take a class or two in dead languages--they could come in handy the next time you're trapped in an ancient tomb. |
