Since Star Wars Episode II came out, it seems that he's become a more popular pick for Rand. I think he's a pretty good physical match -- he may be too pretty, but close enough -- and the change from innocent boy to angry youth that Anakin undergoes is a bit reminiscent of Rand's own changes. |

I have to admit, Heath Ledger would make a great Rand. I do this somewhat grudgingly because I also think he'd make a good Perrin. He's got the height, the build, and the ability. He's also got the rugged good looks. Not pretty, but good looking enough that most people find him attractive. |

Well, if Ryan Phillipe were Rand and Reese Witherspoon was Elayne, it'd be very cute to see the husband and wife together, but I don't know how believable it would be. I suppose I could see Ryan Phillipe as Rand, but to me, he's a little too good looking to be Rand. Unfortunately, I can't comment on much more than his looks. |

It's too bad that most of these suggestions for Rand are people I've hardly ever seen, because I'd like to comment more than this on candidates for the main character. Paul Walker is an actor I've yet to see in action. Maybe if he looked a little bit younger I could see him as a better Rand, but aside from that, I guess he'd be okay to me. He's goodlooking, but still manages to have a little bit of that rugged handsomeness, and at least his height comes close. |
