T'Pol, Sub-Commander.
(Jolene Blalock). Science officer of Enterprise.
T'Pol was born around 2086 and was betrothed
to Koss as a child. ("Breaking
the Ice" [ENT]). In 2150 she
was assigned to the Vulcan Compound on Earth.
When Enterprise was launched early to
return Klaang to Kronos in
2151, T'Pol was assigned to monitor the
mission in exchange for Vulcan starcharts.
After the mission was successfully completed, T'Pol chose to remain aboard the
ship despite her lack of respect for humans. ("Broken
Bow" [ENT]). She postponed her wedding to Koss
by doing so, but maintained covert communications through nearby Vulcan
ships. Less than a year after T'Pol came aboard Enterprise,
Koss's parents issued an ultimatum regarding the postponed
marriage, as Commander Tucker
discovered when he found T'Pol's secret transmissions. After reluctantly
confiding in Tucker, T'Pol chose to
break with tradition and not return to Vulcan for the
wedding. T'Pol typically tries to maintain Vulcan
traditional behavior, and even received special permission for lighted
meditation candles in her quarters. Her conflicts with Koss
have lead her to slowly begin experimenting with human
ideas. ("Breaking the Ice"
[ENT]). T'Pol's age is a mystery on the show, but Jolene Blalock gave
it as sixty-five in an interview.
targeting scanner. A sensing device that maintains weapons lock on a target. Enterprise targeting scanners were uncalibrated and inaccurate until several weeks into it's mission. ("Fight or Flight" [ENT]).
tea. A beverage made by soaking dried leaves of the tea plant (Thea sinensis) in boiling water. Tea is a common refreshment aboard Enterprise. Captain Archer and Commander Tucker drink iced tea with dinner ("Fight or Flight" [ENT]), while Sub-Commander T'Pol prefers hot green tea. Tucker does advise that she avoid the Zariphean blend. ("Breaking the Ice" [ENT]). The A'kali also enjoy tea. ("Civilization" [ENT]).
temporal chamber. A compartment of the Suliban Helix that can connect two disparate regions of space-time for communication. Silik uses the temporal chamber to receive orders from and report to the humanoid figure. In the chamber, the flow of time is altered, and the usual rules of causality cease to be relevant. ("Broken Bow" [ENT]).
temporal cold war. A conflict fought by proxy through time travel. The Suliban Cabal are soldiers in a temporal cold war from an unknown era. ("Broken Bow" [ENT]).
Teneebian moon. One of two natural satellites of the Teneebian primary. Ensign Mayweather has visited both of the Teneebian moons. ("Broken Bow" [ENT]).
termite. A type of pale-colored social insect having soft bodies and living in colonies composed of winged forms that mate and sterile wingless workers and soldiers. There are over five thousand species of termite on Loracus Prime. ("Strange New World" [ENT]).
Terra
Nova. A planet, colonized by humans
in 2076. Terra Nova was struck by a
radioactive asteroid in 2081
that killed most of the Novans. Their
descendents lived underground until being discovered by Enterprise
in 2151. ("Terra
Nova" [ENT]).
thermosphere. The part of a planet's atmosphere above the mesopause, characterized by a great rise in temperature. ("Broken Bow" [ENT]).
Tholia. An unknown proper noun spoken by Klaang while delirious in the Enterprise sickbay in 2151. ("Broken Bow" [ENT]). This is most likely a reference to the home planet of the Tholians, first seen in "The Tholian Web" (TOS). While humans and Vulcans didn't recognize the name, it may be that the Klingons have had contact with the Tholians before the 2150s.
throttle. The equipment that controls the output of an engine, and therefore, the speed of a ship. ("Broken Bow" [ENT]).
thruster. A small rocket used for maneuvering and slow movement. ("Broken Bow" [ENT]).
Ti'Mur. A Suurok-class Vulcan starship under the command of Vanik. The Ti'Mur observed Enterprise at Archer's Comet in 2151, where it also served to relay messages between Sub-Commander T'Pol and Koss. ("Breaking the Ice" (ENT). The Ti'Mur was launched no later than 2136, since Vanik took command at that time. The ship's name may actually be spelled "T'Mur," in keeping with Vulcan tradition, but Ti'Mur is taken from the closed captioning.
time lock. A room connecting the temporal chamber to the rest of the Suliban Helix. The time lock acclimates personnel to the altered space-time within the chamber. ("Broken Bow" [ENT]).
Titan. The largest natural satellite of Saturn. Starfleet's Omega training mission was held on Titan. ("Strange New Worlds" [ENT]).
torpedo. A self-propelled spatial projectile for launching against enemy ships. ("Fight or Flight" [ENT]).
torpedo tube. A tube for launching torpedoes. Enterprise has four torpedo tubes on the underside of it's saucer and one aft-facing tube in it's external pod. ("Fight or Flight" [ENT]). Archer made reference to a "port" and "starboard" tube, which would suggest that the ship only has two forward tubes, but there are clearly four holes at the appropriate location.
Tos.
(Thomas Kopache). A member of the Vulcan delegation on Earth,
subordinate to Ambassador Soval. ("Broken
Bow" [ENT]).
tractor beam. A piece of advanced technology allowing for the remote manipulation of objects. While humans have yet to develop tractor beams, the Klingons ("Unexpected" [ENT]) and Vulcans have. ("Breaking the Ice" [ENT]).
trade complex. A building made up of interconnecting structures for the business of buying and selling commodities. The trade complex on Rigel X was a seedy and dangerous place. It was the location of the meeting between Klaang and Sarin in 2151. Captain Archer led an away team to the trade complex in a successful attempt to locate the kidnapped Klaang. ("Broken Bow" [ENT]).
transceiver array. An apparatus functioning alternately as a transmitter and receiver. Commander Tucker discovered that Sub-Commander T'Pol was engaged in covert communications when he noticed a power surge in Enterprise's transceiver array in 2151. ("Breaking the Ice" [ENT]).
translation matrix. A software component of the universal translator that converts between languages. Commander Tucker had to run Sub-Commander T'Pol's Vulcan messages through the translation matrix before reading them. ("Breaking the Ice" [ENT]).
transporter. A device that phases matter and transmits it to a remote destination for rematerialization, or the reverse. Enterprise has a transporter that has been approved for bio-transport, a fact that her crew is uncomfortable with. ("Broken Bow" [ENT]). The system is only reliable in perfect conditions; otherwise, any number of malfunctions can ensue including the integration of environmental elements into the subject's body. ("Strange New World" [ENT]). Twenty meters of ice are sufficient to interfere with transporter operations. ("Breaking the Ice" [ENT]).
transporting device. SEE: transporter.
tricyclic plasma drive. A type of propulsion system with three cycles involving high-temperature ionized gas. Suliban cell ships utilize tricyclic plasma drives. ("Broken Bow" [ENT]).
Trillius Prime. A planet. Ensign Mayweather has been to Trillius Prime. ("Broken Bow" [ENT]). This may or may not refer to the homeworld of the Trill, the joined species Dax belonged to on Deep Space Nine. Previously, that planet has been called, simply, Trill.
tropolisine. A psychotropic compound. Tropolisine is found in some types of flowering plants, where it is carried on pollen. Each tropolisine atom contains a stray neutron. When this neutron breaks down, a nearly undetectable toxin is released that is fatal if not treated soon with inaproviline. An Enterprise away team suffered from tropolisine hallucinations in 2151. ("Strange New World" [ENT]). The information concerning "stray neutrons" and tropolisine "atoms" makes no sense, scientifically speaking.
Tucker,
Commander Charles III. (Connor Trinneer).
The chief engineer of Enterprise.
"Trip" Tucker was born around 2119
on Earth. He grew up in the Florida
Keys, but traveled to many other places on the planet. He joined Starfleet
in 2139 ("Unexpected"
[ENT]), and during training Tucker lived a few blocks from the Vulcan
Compound in Sausalito. ("Broken
Bow" [ENT]). In 2143, Tucker
met Jonathan Archer, and the two
became friends while serving together. Archer
even saved Tucker's life in 2147. ("Unexpected"
[ENT]). During the Omega training
mission on Titan, the engineer was stricken with nitrogen
narcosis and nearly removed his helmet until Archer
ordered him to leave it on. ("Strange
New World" [ENT]). Tucker signed aboard Enterprise
in 2151 for the adventure of exploring.
("Fight or Flight" [ENT]). He
quickly developed a dislike for Sub-Commander
T'Pol's Vulcan mode of behavior. ("Broken
Bow" [ENT]). When Enterprise
discovered a damaged Xyrillian ship, Tucker
effected repairs and spent time with alien engineer Ah'Len.
He was impregnated by her, the first recorded pregnancy in a human male. Enterprise
tracked down the Xyrillians and the fetus was
removed at Tucker's request. ("Unexpected"
[ENT]). Later in 2151, Tucker discovered
coded messages being sent and received by T'Pol.
As they turned out to be very personal, he found himself serving as something
resembling a friend and confidant to the Vulcan, and
was instrumental in her decision to remain aboard Enterprise.
("Breaking the Ice" [ENT]).
turbolift. An elevator aboard starships that travels through vertical and horizontal turboshafts to reach many destinations. ("Broken Bow" [ENT]).
