captain's mess. The private dining room for the commanding officer of a starship and invited guests. The captain's mess aboard Enterprise has a table for four, though it can seat six if neccessary. ("Broken Bow" [ENT]).

Carlos. (Ricky Luna). A student in Ensign Sato's alien language class at Amazon University in 2151. Carlos had difficulties with pronunciation. ("Broken Bow" [ENT]).

Central Security. Peacekeeping force at the Rigel X trading complex. Central Security had no record of Klaang's visit in 2151. ("Broken Bow" [ENT]).

"Chef." The descriptive nickname of Enterprise's mess officer. ("Fight or Flight" [ENT]).

claustrophobia. An abnormal fear of being in an enclosed or confined place. Ensign Sato experiences mild claustrophobia in environmental suits. ("Fight or Flight" [ENT]).

Chinese food. Variety of nourishment originating in China, on Earth. Doctor Phlox enjoys Chinese food, especially egg drop soup. ("Broken Bow" [ENT]).

chloraxine. A chemical substance. One Axanar was killed by a lethal dose of chloraxine. ("Fight or Flight" [ENT]).

class three pulse rifle. A classification of weaponry. Ensign Sato is rated on class three pulse rifles. ("Fight or Flight" [ENT]).

coaxial port. A component of the Suliban docking interface, initialized after releasing the inertial clamps. ("Broken Bow" [ENT]).

[Doctor Cochrane] Cochrane, Doctor Zephram. (James Cromwell). The first human to invent warp drive. Doctor Cochrane was born in 2032 on Earth. ("Metamorphosis" [TOS]). In 2063, he completed work on the Phoenix, a prototype warp ship constructed from an old nuclear missile, a fitting metaphor following World War III. Upon the Phoenix's launch on 06 April 2063, the passing Vulcan scout T'Plana-Hath detected Cochrane's warp signature. The T'Plana-Hath landed at Cochrane's launch complex in Montana, making the first official contact with humans. (Star Trek: First Contact). Later, Cochrane's team began work on a warp 5 engine, promising a great future for human space exploration. Cochrane spoke at the dedication of the Warp 5 Complex, devoted to the development of the engine. ("Broken Bow" [ENT]). He disappeared into deep space on an unknown heading soon after. ("Metamorphosis" [TOS]). Doctor Cochrane was played by Glenn Corbett in "Metamorphosis" (TOS). In that episode, we learned that Cochrane survived until 2267 with the help of an alien Companion, stranded on a distant planetoid. "Metamorphosis" suggested that Cochrane disappeared 150 years prior, at the age of eighty-seven. This would place his birth in 2030. However, "Broken Bow" establishes that Cochrane was around as late as 2119, and so his date of birth has been pushed up accordingly. Radiation poisoning is the generally accepted rationalization for a thirty-one year old man appearing to be in his fifties during First Contact.

com panel. A wall or surface-mounted unit aboard starships to facilitate intraship communications. ("Broken Bow" [ENT]).

communicator. A portable device allowing individuals to communicate with others and nearby ships and facilities. Starfleet communicators include rudimentary universal translators. ("Broken Bow" [ENT]). The communicators used in Enterprise closely resemble those from the original series, and even have the same chirp when opened.

compound retina. A combination of more than one light-sensitive membrane lining the inner eyeball. The modified Suliban have compound retinas, giving them superior vision. ("Broken Bow" [ENT]).

[Conestoga] Conestoga. A colony ship launched from Earth in 2067 for the planet Terra Nova. The ship arrived in 2076, at which time it was deconstructed to form the basis for the colony. ("Terra Nova" [ENT]).

Cook, Billy. A childhood friend of Jonathan Archer. Billy opined that humans would have reached warp five by 2121 if not for the Vulcans. ("Broken Bow" [ENT]).

coolant tank. A large container for storing a fluid that draws off heat. There are coolant tanks aboard Enterprise, in main engineering. Locking off the coolant tanks is a common procedure upon failure of main power. ("Broken Bow" [ENT]).

corn. Any of numerous cultivated forms of a widely grown, usually tall annual cereal grass (Zea mays) bearing grains or kernels on large ears. Klaang crashed into a corn field on Earth in 2151. ("Broken Bow" [ENT]).

crew mess. A large dining hall for feeding the crew of a starship. ("Broken Bow" [ENT[). Sometimes a buffet-style meal is served in the mess hall, instead of the usual individual use of the synthesizers. ("Unexpected" [ENT]).

Cross, Ryan. A human male. ("Fortunate Son" [ENT]).

Cutler, Crewman Elizabeth. (Kellie Waymire). An Enterprise crew member specializing in entomology. Cutler was part of an away team in 2151 that camped on a Minshara-class planet, during which she and the other members of the team were affected by hallucinogenic pollen. Prior to the mission, Cutler had begun attempting to befriend Sub-Commander T'Pol, and sampled Vulcan cuisine. Her other friends aboard Enterprise included Crewman Novakovich. ("Strange New World" [ENT]).

cyclohexane. A colorless and extremely flammable liquid. The gas giant containing the Suliban Helix features a layer of cyclohexane in its upper atmosphere. ("Broken Bow" [ENT]).
